First, I dream. Creating a vision in my mind. I open my imagination to inspiration from the world, from history, and from ancestral memory. Next, I research. I read, see, taste all that I can from this inspiration. Then, I create. I am constantly seeking new ways to activate archival history so that it is relevant for today's needs. I strive to create work that provides a channel to empowerment and liberation for those who witness it. There's always something new cookin'.
The Fundshack my new play presented by Elevate Theatre Company as part of their inaugural season
I've written a new play titled The Fundshack. A surrealist dream, a realistic nightmare, and the road trip of a lifetime- this play is a love note to Black women living and working in a hostile country. It was inspired by the recent advancement of legislation in the American south to restrict access to reproductive health care. The Fundshack follows a family as they help people in hostile territory get the care they need. Excerpts of the play were presented digitally by The Elevate Theatre Company.
THE GUIDE TO GETTING WHAT'S YOURS
My one-woman show, The Guide to Getting What's Yours, is inspired by the heists of an international jewel thief. It explores how we create an identity and challenges, in this capitalist society, who is stealing from who. If you'd like to book a performance of this piece- reach out!
